The Applied Computing Systems Institute of Massachusetts (ACSIOM) contract negotiated with UMass to provide technology transfer services for university-developed technology. Professor Rick Adrion (shown in photo), ACSIOM Chairman of the Board and Director of CRICCS (the umbrella organization of the CIIR), were a critical part of the proposal and technology transfer aspects of the CIIR.
Within ACSIOM, technology is commercialized by forming and sub-licensing startup companies, by assisting member companies to embed new software technology into their commercial products and services, under proprietary contracts, and by developing direct license agreements with member companies and other companies to use the advanced technology. ACSIOM also provides member companies with the option and flexibility to apply additional company resources to further develop and accelerate commercial applications and proprietary extensions of the Center's research results.
